The Committee find that LI NAM has been in the Police Force for 8½ years, and that he received the usual bonus after his first 5 years' service; they therefore recommend a gratuity, equal to one month's pay for every year of service for the last 3 years. LI NAM's pay being at the rate of $8 per month, equal to $28.

Observatory,

(8.) Read:---A Minute by His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government, requesting a re-vote of $18,680 for the erection of the Observatory.

The Committee find that no provision has been made in the Estimates for 1883, and that out of the $20,000, voted for 1882, only $1,179 has been expended. Under the circumstances, the Committee do not hesitate in recommending the re-vote.

The Chairman adjourns the Committee sine die.

(5.) Read:-Surveyor General's letter No. 248, of the 14th November last, for a sum of $5,000, $3,000 for the erection of a Public Mortuary.

The Committee find that the present Dead House at the Government Civil Hospital is unfit for the purpose, and consider the erection of a Public Mortuary essentially necessary on sanitary grounds, and recommend therefore that the sum asked for by the Surveyor be voted.

(6.) Read-A statement of account prepared by the Chairman of the Education Commission, dated 1st November, 1882, detailing the expenses incurred in connexion with the Education Commission, amounting to $947.30, as follows:-

The Committee find that NG A-FAU has been employed as Custodian of Government House furniture for many years, although the post has only recently been made a Government appointment. Under the circumstances, the Committee recommend a gratuity of $150.
